Day 10

We started off the morning with a good, realistic talk about the rest of the trip. This quote is very fitting for the day, as we have decided to cut the trip short instead of cramming everything in. This just means Hayden will have to do a college tour somewhere on the east coast lol. While it was VERY difficult for me to do... it is the right decision.

So: new plan. Today we went to New Jersey - visiting Trenton on the way.

Then we headed to Cheesequake State Park in NJ. Cheesequake. Had to do it. We debated for about a half an hour about camping, because the weather looked shady, and finally I vetoed democracy and made the executive decision to stay. We actually had fun making dinner and maybe there was some axe throwing? Definitely marshmallow roasting and not at all fighting with flaming marshmallows...







Overall, it was a success despite the initial protesting.

Today's lessons:
1. It's ok to be realistic vs idealistic about a trip. It's for the greater good.
2. Tolls are seriously useless and costing me a small fortune.
3. I have relied far too much on Google Maps this trip, and when it doesn't want to cooperate, I'm lost without it.
4. Even with Google Maps I have taken numerous wrong turns and have completed several circles. 
5. "Is instrument a mayonnaise?" - Hayden Faustmann, go home you're tired 😆

Tomorrow we are headed to CT to see if we can hit a park - weather permitting! Then Acadia NP in Maine, Niagara Falls, and home. Definitely a shorter trip, but it's better than rushing around and pushing everyone. I'd rather have fun then check off the list. And that's a HUGE change for me!*

*Full disclosure: We will still be hitting all 50 states. Just not hitting them in the order I had originally thought.

“If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet.” Nobody wanted to wake up this morning, myself included. And after seeing the free breakfast options, we may as well have just slept through it. Day 14 and Final Day

Day 14: "Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - Terry Pratchett Let the train wreck continue...lol We got up and packed, as quiet as they have ever been, and we hit the road by 8am. We were slated to arrive at Niagara at 6p. And then 6p became 8p. And then 8p became 10p. And at which point I said forget it, we are headed home. Traffic continuously pushed our time back, and I was completely over paying tolls that are outrageously priced. And by the late afternoon, I think we all agreed that we would rather do Niagara right then try and fit it in, at night. Lots of lessons on this trip! We stopped at Albany, NY, and I feel that Albany really, and very accurately, summarized our trip. This was one of the weirdest, most random cities I have ever been in. There was just about every type of architecture in this city - and it felt like a forced mash-up smorgasbord of crazy. So yes, accurately describing our trip haha! (Albany, NY) ...

Day 9

We woke up - all of us exhausted, I think, and walked to the beach. The kids said they didn't want to swim today, but then ran right to the water when they saw the waves. We were able to watch some boarders, which was really cool. Also, the beach is always cool in the morning. Beach #2: Delaware Seashore State Park:   We repacked the entire car so there was some space, and headed out to D.C. via capital buildings. (Dover, DE) (Annapolis, MD) Annapolis looked like a very cool, very expensive town. I saw a yacht docked at someone's summer house!
