Day 9
"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." - Eleanor Roosevelt
Today was a whirlwind.
We woke up - all of us exhausted, I think, and walked to the beach. The kids said they didn't want to swim today, but then ran right to the water when they saw the waves. We were able to watch some boarders, which was really cool. Also, the beach is always cool in the morning. Beach #2: Delaware Seashore State Park:

We repacked the entire car so there was some space, and headed out to D.C. via capital buildings.
(Dover, DE)
(Annapolis, MD)
Annapolis looked like a very cool, very expensive town. I saw a yacht docked at someone's summer house!
We headed to the Smithsonian Museum of American History, walked in and saw this:
(Amazing)
We did a quick tour of the museum and headed back to the car before it got towed. Yes, I read the sign wrong and got a ticket, and apparently almost got towed. That would have made for an interesting story...
(Ali's Gloves)
We then went in search of a hotel for the evening. The weather we were told about we must have missed, but the kids were set on a hotel, so hotel it was. Which also included pizza.
(Happiest boys ever)
I fell asleep early - and I don't think the kids were too far behind. But someone (Miles) left Spongebob on REALLY loud last night and I could not find the remote to save my life.
Recap:
240 miles (which felt like forever in traffic)
$74
2 State Capitals - MD and DE
1 Museum of American History
Today's lessons:
1. Ice cream can substitute for lunch if needed.
2. Don't pack the peanut butter in the trunk where nobody can reach it.
3. Spongebob is just as annoying as I remember.
4. Hotels are needed for rest - especially if they are going to cost the same as camping.
Today's song: "Heroes" - David Bowie (one of my favorites) as it was a Talking Heads Radio driving day today, and Bowie comes up frequently!
Tomorrow we are headed to Jersey. Not sure where, or to do what yet. But I think we are going to spend some time planning out the rest of the trip so we know what we can/cannot do. I don't think the kids are going to make it another week and a half, so I'm looking to condense the trip to ensure we hit all of the states.
