Day 1
"We travel not to escape life, but for life not escape us."
Late start today... I think I've started every trip with that statement.
My body forgot what an alarm was, and rejected it when it went off at 5:20a. And again at 5:45a. So I woke up in a panic at 6:10a, because we were supposed to be on the road by 6a. Again, I feel like this is every trip haha.
However, this time as we started driving (now at 7a after gassing up the car) I realized that the 5 hr drive that I needed to make to get to Warped Tour by 11a also did not factor in the time change. Crap. Now we wouldn't be there until 1 (or 12:58 per Google Maps). Normally being this late to an all day show isn't a problem, but we don't know when our bands are playing because they don't post them until it opens.
Challenge accepted Google Maps.
We got there at 12:35p, fingers crossed that we didn't miss our bands.
First stop: Noblesville, IN for the LAST Warped Tour we can go to and the FIRST mosh pit for Miles and Charlie! Hayden is apparently an expert now. Although, at 6'1", I don't worry about him too much.
We didn't miss our bands!
And, as a parent, I got in for free!
Reel Big Fish, The Interrupters, Less than Jake, and... Joan Jett and the Blackhearts! This was the only place Joan Jett was playing and I was SO excited for Charlie to see her!

Hayden got a sheet signed by Chris from Less than Jake (so cool!)
Miles realized that he really enjoys throwing people around.
Charlie got to be front row for Joan Jett and got a pick that was thrown out!
And me? I got to see The Interrupters - who were AMAZING! They were video taping the circle pit, so I'll see if I can find that and add it in here at some point.
No camping for us this evening, just some pool time at the hotel (and lots of giggles).

And while I try to make it a goal of no fast food on the trips, that bacon deluxe snackpack from Culver's absolutely hit the spot after a full day of heat, moshing, and only drinking water (none of us wanted to eat at the show, and food there was scarce).
Recap:
328 miles
$282 - including tickets, hotel, food, and gas. I would say it includes the souvenirs that we bought, but some guy paid me $20 cash to pretend one of my kids was his so he could get in cheaper. Deal. I gave him the tall one, pocketed the cash, and we all walked in together. Hayden is now questioning his value though haha! Thanks random guy for the sheet Hayden got signed, and for the Vans Warped Tour hat/shirt we were able to purchase!
Today's Lessons:
1. I have now ruined the other 2 children, as they will never want to sit at a concert again. Unless it's in the front. Or on the stage.
2. Joan Jett is timeless: every band that wasn't playing came to watch her from the side stages - really cool for the kids to see that.
3. Teenagers need 14.5 hrs minimum of sleep or they turn into ogres.
4. I will not pay $32 for a corn dog bucket, which is basically the only food offered at the tour (food was definitely disappointing).
5. We were each able to bring in a sealed water bottle, and they had refilling stations: saved us a TON of money! I heard a 20oz soda was $6.
Song of the day: "Bad Reputation" - Joan Jett
Today we will check out a couple of Capital buildings and make our way to GA - decided to skip West Virginia and add it to next year's random states tour that we will be doing. So, if you are following, prepare yourself for tons of lake/family pics - until we leave Monday for OBX!
