Day 8
“Not all classrooms have four walls.”
The storm hit at around 3:00am officially, although we woke up to the giant crack of thunder a little before that. The tent held up- barely, but nothing was too wet. I call that a win. Once the rain slowed we all crashed pretty hard. The twins and I were up first and got ready to head to the beach. Hayden decided to sleep in, not a problem!
It was a perfect beach morning.
And Hayden joined us!
Hayden and I went to drop off garbage and officially pay for the tent site. Somehow this happened...
We were coming back to make breakfast, but the rain was heading in quickly, so we did the fastest clean-up EVER. On the plus side: we found the stakes. They were unde the tent. Rain? Ok- time to shop then! We took care of some souvenir shopping then headed to the grocery store to plan for the next couple of days.
The weather combined with not wanting to spend an entire day in the car made us change up our plans a bit. Or like 5 times today. Instead of camping in Maryland, we ahot up the coast and headed to Delaware Seashore State Park. We were setting up camp and prepping for dinner (can’t have a fire here- too windy and dry), and we noticed that there was no burner for the small propane. There was also no large grill. My guess? They are sitting at my house on the floor stacked on each other. Ugh! Good thing I bought some food that didn’t need to be cooked! We actually ate well considering. And we are preparing for another possible storm.
Early tent night means card games and shadow puppets!

Recap:
260 Miles
$161 - too much today!
Today’s lessons:
1: This reminded me of the movie “Speed”:
But in reality it just cost me $13 in tolls to drive a really long bridge/tunnel. 🤨
2: Apparenlty I will pay $44 to camp. In a tent. With no electric. 🤨 We could have gotten a hotel for the same cost.
3: I need to triple check when packing. 🤨
Today’s song: “Comfortably Numb” - Van Morrison version from “The Departed” (love this version!)
Showed the kids this clip today, as we were headed to Delaware. Should be another early morning at the beach, the a couple of Capital buildings on the way to the Smithsonian! Thank you Liz for the heads up in the weather- looks like tomorrow night will be hotel so we aren’t caught up in some nasty weather!
