Day 11

"Because the greatest part of a road trip isn't arriving at your destination. It's all the wild stuff that happens along the way."

We might be able to name this trip "Trainwreck". Fiasco from the beginning, and today was another example of things going wrong lol.

But at least we are having fun living the fiasco.

I woke up before the kids and got a fire going to make breakfast. Eggs and "sausage" aka brat leftovers. I also was successful in hard-boiling some eggs on the fire. We packed up to head to Connecticut, which up until TODAY I didn't realize was spelled Connect with a ct. I have been spelling this wrong my whole life. I'm claiming Mandela Effect. (If you don't know what that is, you should look it up - but beware, you will get lost in the rabbit hole.)

We did pass NYC today:

We got to our destination, after many extra hours in traffic, and the KIDS decided to keep moving. They said it would be a waste of money to do the park when it was going to rain and we wouldn't be able to do it the whole time. WOW. Very adult decision from them. So we trekked on to Hartford (several more wrong turns later) and saw the capital building:

(Hartford, CT)

As we were driving, I had Hayden try and locate a hotel for us for tonight somewhere close to Acadia. Nope. Full. Ok, so somewhere close to Acadia. Nope. Full or $400+. Ok... somewhere in Maine?? Nope. Nowhere under $150 - even with all of the reward points I use. So, camping? Nope. Thunderstorms rolling in.

So we landed in Methuen, MA. For about $90 in hotel - and that was WITH the rewards points.

And hotel means pizza, but nobody delivered, so we went to pick up.
We were all lying on the beds hooked up to electronics, and I said, "Guys, I'm really glad we get to bond like this!"
"We've been bonding the whole trip, Mom."
Fair.

I'm ready for bed.

Recap:
274 miles
$195
1 Capital Building (CT)

Today's Lessons:
1. $15 to cross a bridge. $15
2.  Me:"Isn't this the Spiderman bridge?" Miles:"What movie is that from?" Ummm, Spiderman? Go home Miles, you're done lol.
3. My credit/debit cards don't like to work out of state. That's not a today lesson, that's been a trip lesson. I had to work some magic to figure out how to get my $ out of my account, as the ATM wouldn't let me take it out either. Phone calls will be made...
4. That was the longest 274 miles. Ever. And it was Connecticut traffic, not NYC!
5. There are no public bathrooms in any of the gas stations in CT. Just for future FYI. 3 gas stations later, and we ended up going to a grocery store to find one.

Tomorrow we head out EARLY to try and get a campsite near Acadia - it's a 4 hr drive from our current location, but we will see how long it actually takes. Looking forward to planting for a couple of days...
Maybe we can enjoy some sights?
